Confidence is so important but how to build it effectively?

Personally, confidence grants me the power to look forward and alleviate the insecurity about life. It is also a belief that would make me have more trust in a relationship and more courage to love. During 2020 and 2021, I constantly worried about my weight and I am anxious about it as the restriction on outdoor activities decreases my opportunities for fitness. And that severely affects my confidence in social activities and other things.

Until one day, accidentally, I saw a YouTuber, not so charming at first sight. However, when I click on her homepage, she recorded every step of her fitness process every day and share her experience and food recipes with her followers although her body is not that perfect. But her courage and confidence genuinely inspire me as her videos demonstrate the potential that I could be, even better. From that day on, I started to record my daily life like her. Sometimes, it is about cooking eastern cuisine and sometimes it is only about me go to the park and walk around. Even the content is not that exciting but that is life, my life. When I replay the videos, I gradually realized that my life is not that boring and the concern about my weight simply can’t be a reason for weakening my confidence.

After that, I started jogging. At first, I can only jog for 5 miles. Gradually, 10miles is not a harsh task for me. I learned that persistence is a way to achieve something that might beyond your imagination before. And achievement helps to build my confidence.

Another event that builds my confidence to a large extent is that during the summer vacation, I signed up for a French lesson because I’m quite interested in French culture. However, it was difficult for me at first and I barely understand the content even though I work hard after class and stayed up late. However, the result is indifference. It seems like persistence is no longer a way to build my confidence and gain improvement. Then I asked one of my French friends. She was friendly and patiently explained the difference between ‘Un’and ‘Une’, which confused me for quite some time. I also tried to read some books about the basics of French. Some of them have detailed academic explanations and methods but I couldn’t follow them. But there’s an interesting book that explained French humorously with lots of literary quotations and stories. Since then, my French improved a lot and I genuinely enjoyed the learning process. I learned that persistence is essential, but the technique is also a key element for achieving the goal.

To summarize, personally, persistence and technique are both important elements to accomplishment. And confidence is built upon the accomplishment after one and another.
